I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Psalms 91:2 KJV
This verse teaches us about two characteristics of God, a refuge and a fortress, and why we can trust him as a result.
A refuge is a shelter. Imagine finding shade to sit under on a very hot or rainy day. You know for a fact that as you walk under that shelter that neither sunrays nor rain can touch you anymore. God will be your shelter from every evil rain or heat that threatens to burn you. You will not be affected, you will not be burnt.
A fortress is simply a fortified place or a stronghold. Imagine the difficulty of breaking into the White House and taking President Trump hostage or perhaps breaking someone out of prison. Even in a movie, you’d see that it’s typically not easy breaking out of prison. In like manner, it’s very difficult to win an election in your opponents stronghold. Such a situation can be described as a fortress. A fortress is impenetrable. You cannot break in, neither can you break out.
These two qualities make God trustworthy. Like David, I like to think of him as My God: (The One in whom I can trust). Would you much rather trust your own abilities in keeping yourself from covid-19 or would you prefer to be in the safe haven of God’s stronghold? You will admit it’s not even easy to refrain from touching your face. Let God be your shelter and fortress today.
The name of the Lord is a strong tower:
the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
I declare now that you’ve found a safe haven in God’s impenetrable fortress. Evil cannot come in to harm you. You will never be exposed to covid-19 in the name of Jesus!
